Student Scholarships

2012-2013 Scholarship Application Process

Student scholarship recipients are chosen by the Foundation’s selection committee based on an application packet that includes:

1. A portfolio of works with a completed portfolio worksheet.

2. An artist’s statement.

3. A brief essay (3 paragraphs) on the subject “Why Art School?”

4. A recommendation from your art instructor or an art professional who knows your work well.

5. A description of financial need and circumstances.

The completed application packet for the 2012-2013 academic year is due by May 1, 2012.   The committee may request interviews or additional information from the applicants at that time for the purpose of clarifying financial status, student interests, and additional details. The committee’s final decisions will be based on the demonstration of creativity, innovation, financial need and potential for achievement. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decisions by June 1. All decisions are final.

The applicant must be either a High School senior, recent High School graduate,  or currently enrolled in an art or design program at an accredited college or university. Funding will become available upon presenting evidence of acceptance and enrollment by the college or university.

The Steele Foundation Scholarship Program

Applicants must be a Colorado resident, a visual arts major of any discipline, and may be at any level of study. Students who receive these scholarships can apply them at any college art program they choose to attend. Each scholarship award will be $2,500 for one academic year, divided into two terms.

Applicants must be Sophomore level or above and the scholarship funds must be used at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design for regular full-time tuition. The award is $3,000 annually distributed in $1,000 increments over three terms.

The Gerald E. Ehrhart and Betty C. Ehrhart Memorial Scholarship Award

Applicants can be at any level of study, but the scholarship funds must be used at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design for regular full-time tuition. The award is $3,000 annually distributed in $1,000 increments over three terms

The Wall Street on Demand Graphic Design Scholarship Program

Applicants must be either a Junior or Senior Graphic Design major and the scholarship funds must be used at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design for regular full-time tuition. The award is $2,500 for one academic year, divided into two terms.

Students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and remain in good standing with the college or university. At the conclusion of each completed term, recipients must provide a copy of grades for the past school term as evidence of meeting the required grades standard for further funding.

Portfolio

Your portfolio must consist of 8 of your best pieces. You will need to photograph your works and submit them on a disk if you apply by mail or jpegs if you apply online. Films, animation, and video works must be edited to last no longer than 5 minutes per piece. Please submit one image for each 2-dimensional piece. You may submit up to three images of each 3-dimensional work. A multiple-part work of art (such as a triptych or installation or documentation of a performance piece) count as one piece.

These pieces of art MUST be your original work. If you collaborated with someone else on any part of the piece, you must indicate exactly what your contribution was. A piece that uses a commercial typeface must indicate the name of the typeface and how it was obtained.

If the Scholarship Committee finds at any time now or in the future that any of the pieces submitted as your portfolio are copies of someone else's work, your scholarship will be revoked. This includes, but is not limited to, original works done by you that are copied from someone else's photograph or images from the internet. All photographic and reference materials that you use must be your own.

E-mail a single 8 page pdf of your 8 images clearly labeled with the title and your name to pjsfoundation@gmail.com. The subject header should read: "Your Ful Name: Scholarship Portfolio"

I understand that, if l am awarded a scholarship, I will maintain a minimum academic GPA of 2.5 and remain in good standing while attending college. I also understand that I will forfeit my scholarship funding if I withdraw from college and do not complete my scholarship terms.
